Stop saying it….

First off, let’s just say that we are delighted that more and more people are becoming familiar with the job titleConcierge, this is awesome. We all know that a Concierge has long since extended its application outside the realm of the Five Star Hotels.

We have been providing personal concierge services for almost 11 years now and are thrilled that people have stopped asking us how to spell it #notkidding.

But don’t get us started about the introduction of a so-called Concierge service at your car dealership or a bargain electrical appliance outlet.

For some reason, retailers and some service providers feel that because they have blown their ability to provide genuine customer service, they will cease using the term entirely and wheel out a shiny new person and slap a Concierge badge on their chest.

This delicious French word will surely evoke a much more respected and chic approach to their customer service… won’t it?

Do they have any understanding of what a Concierge truly is?

A Concierge has a Rolodex to kill for and can deliver anything to anyone (within the law). They are resourceful and highly connected individuals with the sharpest of critical thinking skills, all delivered with the discretion and finesse of an MI6 operative.

These skills are not usually required to point to the fridge that is on sale this week or direct a customer to the spare parts department. Whilst very important roles in any business, they are not a Concierge – Soz.
