…. and neither do health fund memberships. These were the standard two offerings to employees during my years in recruitment and one which has largely remained unchanged in the past 10 years according to my former work colleagues.

Let’s face it, not everyone is a gym person. The intention of the employer is to offer an opportunity to employees to care for their well being, but what if your employee is not actually interested in health and fitness OR they might still be interested fitness; but they run outdoors so they have no need for a gym, perhaps they play tennis and again don’t need a gym. The gym might not be in a convenient location or even open at hours that suit their lifestyle! Whilst this might look good on paper, it is only valid for a very few of your employees, and certainly not a ‘one size fits all’ solution.

The same could be said for health insurance. Many of these funds are negotiated by the corporation, but may not be appropriate for the wide and diverse group of employees within an organisation.
